Our members compete in various technical design projects. These bright students have been competitive for years and have made a name for Purdue SEDS.
Boeing Jet PAck
The Go Fly project is a competition with the goal of fostering the development of safe, quiet, compact, personal VTOL devices capable of flying twenty miles while carrying a single person. The competition is divided into several phases, with phase I focusing on a design proposal submission and all subsequent phases focusing on building prototypes and improving on the original design.
High Altitude Balloon (HAB): HAB is a group of 20 students who build, design, and fly high altitude balloons.
Each year since 2016, Space and Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) has partnered with SEDS to hold a satellite design competition. Students teams compete to design a satellite system for a particular application, presenting their solution in both a paper and a presentation. So far, Purdue SEDS has won back-to-back.
Now in the second phase of the NASA-sponsored competition, Purdue's student RASC-AL team is hard at work developing an innovative new spacecraft concept. Dubbed MJOLNIR, this new design will transport a four-member crew to Mars while maintaining a constant gravity level to avoid bone and muscle atrophy.
